Former national table tennis coach, Babatunde Obisanya has lamented the steady decline of the game of ping pong in Nigeria. Speaking at the finals of the maiden edition of
Kandaval Inter-school Table Tennis Championship tagged Kandaval Cup on
Saturday, the coach stressed that without such competitions at the
grass-roots level, Nigeria which once dominated the sport in Africa and
the Commonwealth may soon run out of players who can hold their heads
high at regional meets
Sponsor of the tourney, Mr. Tony Obot, who is the CEO
of Kandaval Communications Ltd, promised to continue sponsorship of the
competition, believing that the gesture would help uncover more talents
from the grass roots for the country

Amudalat, a JSS 2 pupil of Isheri Junior Grammar School created an
upset as she dismissed her counterpart Oyinye Augustine of Isheri Senior
Grammar School in three sets to lift the girls’ singles trophy.
In the boys’ category, Ogumana Williams of Isheri
Senior Grammar School confirmed his superiority as he defeated Fasiu
Muse of Isheri Junior Grammar School 3-1.
